Alex Bornemann

Alex Bornemann is currently serving clients in Boquete, Panama and online. He has a long history of rescue work, having started to helping out in a local shelter in Germany by walking dogs and going as far as being co-founder of a rescue group in Panama. His dog training career started out of frustration of not finding the right training solutions at a time he needed it most. Alex could not have a dog of his own until 2014, which is why he previously had been helping out at a local shelter in order to stay in touch with dogs. After his first dog, his  family grew to a human partner and her dog, and soon dogs number three and four would follow. Two of his dogs were getting into fights and giving up on them was not an option. During a road trip through California the fights were getting worse and they looked for professional help. Alex had already undergone training with his first dog and had learned a lot through self learning with book and other resources, but it wasn’t enough. His search for the right trainer did not end well and so he took it upon himself to educate himself to solve the problems he was facing.

And as such a long journey of self study began, he would later work with different mentors and enrolled in distance learning through the animal behavior college, of which he was not able to complete the practical assessment since he had to relocate to Panama where the ABC was not offering courses. Putting into effect what he had learned, he started applying his knowledge with several rescues in Panama and soon enrolled in the K9-1 online school for dog training, which is a very intense program focused on foundation based learning. After taking in so much theory, Alex wanted to give himself the cutting edge and decided to go to Starmark Academy in Hutto, Texas and polish up his skills during a three month intensive course including, basic, intermediate and off-leash obedience as well as clicker tricks, scent detection and service dog work. He is currently holding classes in Boquete, Panama as well as training students worldwide through our webpage.

Gerardo Sanchez

Hello there! My name is Gerardo Sanchez, born in Mexico and currently living in Puerto Rico. Proud owner of 2 rescue dogs, Luna which is a boxer/ridgeback/whippet mix and Rico which apparently is an australian kelpie/texas lacy dog mix.

I’ve always owned dogs, but it was until not too long ago that I decided to be part of the dog training world. My journey a little deeper into the dog world started by the time I did a student exchange in the city of Milan, Italy.  Some of my favorite things to do over there was just walking around the city and honestly Milan is very dog friendly, so there were dogs everywhere which made me miss my Luna more than anything in the world. Also there’s a lot of people living in the street, particularly in one of the main squares, and A LOT of them had dogs, but the cool thing about it is that the dogs looked super well taken care of and it made me very happy to see with how little they had, how close they were to their dogs.

So all this thinking about Luna and dogs 24/7 lead me to create a dog hotel as my classes business (because my classes over there were mainly entrepreneurship and of course you had to create a business) and basically this is where it all started. A little after that I started a little pet sitting business but shortly realized that my knowledge of dogs was very low, so I decided to sign up in a course for dog trainers at Starmark Academy for dog trainers in Hutto, Texas where I met Alex, we were roommates and the idea for a business together came along. This was also where I met Rico, he was the rescue dog that was assigned to me to train during our 3 months over at the academy, but ended falling in love with him and bringing him over to Puerto Rico. Both me and Alex have a balanced training background, but we do not believe in a “one size fits all” type of mentality we treat each dog as an individual and the dog will let us know what kind of tool is the most effective on him.
